January 29 - The port of Rostock has reported a decline in the handling of general cargo in 2014, with 453,000 tonnes handled, 40,000 tonnes less than in 2013.

The port authority reported that fewer slabs and pipes were handled, whilst the number of coils and crane units increased.

"Heavy lift general cargo is increasingly being replaced by general cargo with a greater added value, such as cranes and wind power plants", says Dr Gernot Tesch, managing director operations/ technics.
