December 11 - German Albanian Logistics Agency (GALA), part of the EMS-Fehn-Group, is in the process of shipping a drilling rig from Albania to Emden in Germany.
GALA was responsible for the land transport from the drilling site, located in the Albanian mountains, to the port of Durres, which required the movement of around 160 truckloads. Prior to the transport, GALA also provided a road survey and all necessary permits, as well as organising Customs clearance.
The transport was supported by EMS Albanian Port Operator (APO), which was responsible for the intermediate storage and loading of the rig at the port of Durres' East Terminal.
The mast, mud pumps, rotary table, tanks, cables, generators, pipes and more than 40 accommodation and office containers have now been loaded onto a vessel, supervised by EMS Chartering. The vessel is expected to arrive at the German port of Emden after Christmas.
Once in Emden, EMS Port Agency and Stevedoring (EPAS) will discharge and store the cargo before it is loaded onto trucks for the final journey to the jobsite.
"It is a challenging task to pick up 10,000 cu m of cargo from a remote area," said Manfred Müller, managing director of GALA and ceo of EMS-Fehn-Group. "More than 50 of the 160 truckloads were heavy loads that had to be transported over steep gravel roads."
