August 13 - German heavy machinery manufacturer Liebherr has been awarded a contract to supply six heavy lift ship cranes for the German shipping line, Rickmers.
Four of the cranes are type CBB 4700 with a lifting capacity of 450 tonnes. The remaining two cranes are CBB 3450s with a capacity of 120 tonnes each.
The six cranes are being built by Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH and will be delivered to Rickmers during 2014. They will be installed on two vessels at the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai, China.
The heavy lift cranes benefit from Liebherr's fast and precise Litronic control system. The cranes also have a comparatively low total weight and low centre of gravity, improving a ships' stability., says Liebherr.
In comparison with previous ships of this type, the CBB 4700 lift capacity has been increased from 400 to 450 tonnes, improving the ships' lift capacity.
Business relations between Rickmers and Liebherr date back to the 1970s and today, Liebherr handles a large number of its heavy lift sea transportations with the aid of Rickmers-Linie, a regular worldwide service for project cargo.
According to Liebherr, this contract emphasises its increased focus on the maritime heavy lift crane segment. Its range of heavy lift ship cranes will be extended by one type this year, including cranes with a lifting capacity of 1,000 tonnes.
