July 15 - The Rhenus Group has established a joint venture with Japan's Sankyo Corporation, dubbed Rhenus Sankyo Logistics.
The joint venture will mainly handle imports and exports to and from Japan, but will also provide domestic services such as distribution and warehousing in the country, said Rhenus.
Sankyo is part of the Fujiki Group, which includes various companies specialised in port services, multimodal distribution services and transport operations.
"Japan is the fourth largest importer and exporter in the world. Because of its specific business culture, however, it is difficult for foreign companies to establish a foothold in the market; so an experienced local partner is an enormous support," said Rhenus board member Tobias Bartz.
According to Sankyo's website, the Japanese company offers the transportation of plant equipment and machinery, as well as general logistics services.
HLPFI will be publishing its annual report on the Japanese project forwarding marketplace in the Sept/Oct 2016 edition of the magazine. If you are interested in contributing to this feature, please contact the editorial team at editorial@heavyliftpfi.com.
