April 14 - The Port of Beaumont has welcomed Farrell Lines' Alliance Beaumont, the vessel's first call at the port since Maersk announced in March that it would be reviving the Farrell Lines brand - see HLPFI website item of March 10.
The U.S. flag ro-ro vessel is one of two recent additions to the Farrell Lines fleet, which now consists of four ro-ro ships.
The Port of Beaumont presented a traditional "First Call" plaque to Capt. Jonathan Ahlin, master of the Alliance Beaumont. Officers were also given shirts and caps with the port logo.
The Alliance Beaumont was brought under the U.S. flag in Dubai and carried a cargo of military equipment into the Port of Beaumont, then loaded outbound military cargo and was scheduled to load additional military and commercial cargo at other U.S. ports after sailing from Beaumont.
Built between 2004 and 2008, all four Farrell Lines vessels boast heavyweight stern ramps and versatile deck configurations. The size and design of the ships allow for carriage of a variety of vehicles, helicopters and various oversized equipment.
