July 25 - A combined rail and road shipment of a 292.1 tonne transformer by Spring, Texas-based rail project shipment forwarder Colossal Transport Solutions (CTS) brought more than just issues with regulatory and official freight transport laws
In order to transfer the transformer from CTS' 16-axle FD railcar, which had moved as a special movement from Houston, Texas to Plain Dealing, Louisiana to a 19-axle Goldhofer trailer, an entire siding had to be completely rehabilitated to allow the safe passage of the railcar.
The 24 km onward road movement four 30 m bridges to be bypassed and a 137 m bridge that had to be crossed utilising eight wing dollies in order to obtain the necessary permits.
