Quality Freight, in its role as receiving agent at the port of Cristobal, Panama, has handled two 84-ton (76.2-tonne) transformers.
The transformers, along with accessories, arrived at the port on BBC Chartering’s multipurpose vessel BBC Ontario. The entire shipment weighed 289 tonnes.
The units were loaded on to six-axle trucks for transportation to two separate project sites. The accessories were transported using ten flatbed trailers.
In a separate project, Quality Freight handled the transport of a Komatsu excavator boom from Gamboa to the Manzanillo International Terminal (MIT).
Measuring 13.85 m in length and weighing approximately 72 tons (65.3 tonnes), the component was loaded onto a barge suitable for transit along the Panama Canal.
Quality Freight coordinated the docking of the barge at MIT and the offloading operation, which was completed using a ship-to-shore crane.
The boom section was then lashed and secured on a Mafi trailer from Wallenius Wilhelmsen Ocean (WW Ocean) and loaded on the ro-ro vessel Oberon for onward transportation to Bremerhaven, Germany.
Quality Freight is a member of the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) in Panama.
