In November 2024, Prumo Logística, the port of Açu and Sarens signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to study logistics solutions that would support the offshore wind energy business.
This is Sarens’ first agreement in the country for offshore wind projects having been active in several other sectors in Brazil since 2008. The studies will evaluate the best logistics solutions for moving turbines, blades, and other components in the offshore wind value chain at Açu port, located in Joao da Barra, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“We want to combine integrated logistics and be an operational and maintenance hub with more competitive costs for the offshore wind industry in Brazil,” said Mauro Andrade, chief executive of business development at Prumo.
Açu aims to become a hub for Brazil’s offshore wind industry, its port/industrial complex located close to one of the country’s highest potential regions for offshore wind energy developments. It is connected to the national power transmission network and can benefit from existing logistical synergies derived from the area’s strong oil and gas sector. In addition, the port also wants to become a manufacturing and assembly hub for the offshore wind value chain, attracting wind turbine, blade and cable players.
The MoU was signed during HRH Princess Astrid of Belgium’s visit to the Belgian economic mission in Brazil.
