April 4 - The Port of Los Angeles has completed its 10-year main channel-deepening project.
The USD370 million project is a step forward in the port's ongoing efforts to ensure its global competitiveness. Completed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, the project to deepen the gateway's main navigational channel and turning basins will allow the Port of Los Angeles to accommodate bigger, more modern vessels.
The gateway is currently in the midst of a five-year USD1.3 billion improvement programme to modernise its terminals, up rail capacity and to improve roadways around the port.
