Port Freeport was awarded a USD1.48 million grant by the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Ports Program.
The grant will be used to develop strategies to improve Port Freeport’s environmental impact and operational resilience. The planning effort entails the creation of a comprehensive emissions inventory, developing a port resiliency and implementation plan, and a performance measurement framework.
The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 allocated USD3 billion to the EPA’s Clean Ports Program to fund zero-emission port equipment and climate planning at US. ports. This aims was to build a zero-emissions foundation across the port sector, improve public health, and include engagement of near-port communities.
