February 9 - Allseas Group has confirmed that its platform installation and decommissioning vessel Pieter Schelte is being renamed Pioneering Spirit.
HLPFI reported on February 6 that Allseas had decided to change the name of the vessel after energy company Shell was criticised over plans to use a ship named after a convicted war criminal to decommission a North Sea oilfield.
Allseas says that new name reflects what the vessel stands for - "a new technological step in platform installation and decommissioning" - as well as fitting the company's tradition of surpassing technical boundaries.
