October 14 - Breakbulk cargoes handled by the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority (PRPA) during the first six months of 2015 were up 28.44 percent, compared with the same period in 2014.

Between January and June 2015, 845,092 tonnes of breakbulk cargo was handled, compared with 657,977 tonnes in the previous year. In particular, the volume of steel handled at the port was up 27.57 percent.

Overall the port handled 3,104,140 tonnes of cargo at its facilities during the reporting period, which represents an 8.79 percent year-on-year increase.

"2014 was the fifth consecutive year of double-digit cargo growth at the Port of Philadelphia, and our initial numbers for 2015 point to more good news like that by the end of this year," said PRPA executive director James T. McDermott, Jr
