June 15 - PD Ports has welcomed the wind turbine installation vessel, Pacific Orca, and heavy lift ship, Jumbo Javelin, to its newly developed quay at Teesport, UK.
The 550 m long quay, which measures 14.5 m deep, has been significantly strengthened so it can now handle loads of up to 10 tonnes per sq m, making it suitable for the mobilisation of wind turbine installation vessels.
Jumbo's heavy lift ship Jumbo Javelin, which has two 900-tonne capacity cranes, arrived at the new quay to assist with the transport of wind turbine transition pieces.
This was followed by the arrival of the 161 m long Pacific Orca, which will be berthed at Teesport's Number One Quay for several weeks, while it is fitted with a pile gripper.
Once the ship is ready, it will sail down the east coast of the UK to assist with the positioning of wind turbine piles into the seabed for the Rampion offshore wind farm project, located 13 km south of Brighton.
