May 14 - Member of the Project Cargo Network (PCN) in Abu Dhabi, Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS), has worked together with fellow PCN members, OTX Logistics in the USA and Wilhelmsen Towell in Oman, to transport equipment for an oilfield project.
The three companies joined forces to handle the packing, transportation, seafreight and Customs clearance of five units - a Kenworth truck, coil tubing unit, nitrogen unit, Jeep trailer and booster trailer - all of which were shipped from the USA to Oman via ro-ro vessel for an onshore oilfield in Oman.
Niju Joseph John, sales development manager at WSS in Abu Dhabi, explained that each unit had its own challenges, including during packing and protecting at the factory in the USA, and road transportation from the factory to the Galveston terminal in Texas ready for shipment to Oman's Sohar port.
"An additional challenge arose when the carrier offloaded the units at Jeddah port for transhipment, instead of the required Omani port," he added, explaining that this required extensive coordination with the carrier's different offices in order to ensure the cargo arrived in Oman as scheduled.
