April 16 - Project Caro Network (PCN) member for Sudan - Darka for Trading & Services - has extended its PCN representation to South Sudan.
The company has been based in Port Sudan since 1983. The South Sudan branch, established in Juba during 2008, offers a full range of project cargo and heavy lift services.
Darka for Trading & Services has executed a number of project shipments recently, including the transport of six 93.5 tonne engines to South Sudan, covering a distance of 2,135 km (pictured).
It also delivered an 82 tonne mobile crane to the Bisha gold mine in Ethiopia. The machine was urgently required by the mining client and was the first of its kind to be transported through a Sudanese port using the cross-border transport link with Eritrea, according to Darka.
The final 130 km of the 800 km route was on un-tarmacked road, so bulldozers and front-wheel loaders were used to repair the road as the convoy passed. Despite facing rocky highland terrain and soft desert plains, Darka was able to deliver the heavy shipment in five days.
