May 21 - The heavy lift vessel Sun Rise has set sail for Panama from Trieste in Italy, carrying four new gates for the Panama Canal's third set of locks.
The ship is expected to arrive in Panama in mid-June dependent on weather conditions, said the Panama Canal Authority (ACP).
This is the second shipment of gates being transported to Panama, with the first four gates arriving in the country in August 2013.
"This is another important milestone towards the completion of a project that will have an important impact on the international maritime community," said Panama Canal administrator, Jorge Luis Quijano.
The Panama Canal expansion project is currently 74 percent complete, said the ACP.
