July 2 - Pacific Winter, one of the multi-purpose ships operating on Rickmers' service between Europe and the Middle East/India has been christened Rickmers Chennai, writes Louisa Beckett.
The 19,100 dwt Rickmers Chennai (picture below) renamed in a ceremony in Hamburg by Dr Christine Winter, as sponsor of the vessel. With an 800 tonne lift capacity, Rickmers Chennai has proven to be a highly successful addition to the Rickmers-Linie fleet, says the shipping line.
Ulrich Ulrichs, Rickmers-Linie's chief operating officer and managing director said: "We now have four vessels on charter from Reederei Heino Winter, all of which perform extremely well. Both the two smaller vessels, Rickmers Chittagong and Rickmers Mumbai, as well as Rickmers Dubai and its sister Rickmers Chennai, which was named yesterday, enable us to offer increased flexibility on our Middle East/India - Europe Service."
Heino Winter, owner and managing director of Reederei Heino Winter, said: "We are always happy to see our ships carrying the Rickmers name as it is a company with a long history and a strong reputation for service excellence. We look forward to working together for many more years."
Vessels on Rickmers-Linie's Middle East/India - Europe Service call at a varying range of east coast and west coast ports in India and at ports in the Middle East.
