August 24 - Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic) has installed Oman's first hydrocracker reactor as part of the Sohar Refinery Improvement Project (SRIP).

Installation of the hydrocracker reactor, which weighed approximately 950 tonnes and measured 42 m high, required extensive preparatory works, as well as two cranes and a 36-strong team of heavy lift personnel.

The hydrocracker reactor, which Orpic says will enable it to meet increasing demand for petroleum products in the Sultanate, is the heaviest unit to be installed so far at the SRIP site.

The project involves the addition of five new units at the refinery, all of which are intended to increase the country's ability to process heavier crude oil. Completion of the upgrade project is scheduled for 2016.
