July 17 - ICARUS, the world's largest liquid argon particle hunter has been shipped from Europe to North America.
The machine was transported in two parts by truck from The European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) facility in Geneva, Switzerland, where it was being refurbished, to Basel, Switzerland, from where it was moved by barge to Antwerp, Belgium.
From Belgium, Spliethoff's multipurpose ship Frieda delivered the two parts, each 66 ft (20.1 m) long and weighing 63 tons (57.2 tonnes), to the Port of Indiana - Burns Harbour, USA.
Both pieces are expected to arrive at ICARUS' final destination, the US Department of Energy's Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) in Batavia, Illinois by July 26.
