August 27 - French special vehicle manufacturer Nicolas, a subsidiary of the TII Group, has delivered two self-propelled MHD G2 transporters to Alstom.
The transporters are for use at Alstom's new 19,000 m sq manufacturing plant in Nazaire, which is capable of producing 100 wind turbines annually.
The Nicolas vehicles will be used to automatically transport nacelles, weighing several tonnes each, from one assembly station to the next along lines and codes that have been set into the floor.
In order to move without a driver, the transporters are equipped with cameras and sensors that can detect the route. The vehicles also feature a hybrid system that uses a diesel engine when outdoors and switches to electric drive in enclosed areas.
