May 28 - The US TSA (Transportation Security Administration) has now set a new deadline for the 100 percent screening requirement of US-bound air cargo.
From December 3, 2012, all cargo shipments loaded on passenger aircraft must undergo screening to test for explosives.
The 100 percent screening requirement had been planned for a year earlier before pressure from the industry persuaded authorities to push back the date of implementation.
The purpose of the screening requirement is to match bellyhold airfreight security to that of checked baggage levels.
The requirement to screen 100 percent of outbound US bellyhold cargo was implemented in late 2010.
