March 28 - Mercator Transport, a member of the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) network, has teamed up with WWPC partners in China and Portugal to deliver a number of heavy project shipments.
A mobil crusher measuring 9.8 m x 2.79 m x 4.4 m and weighing 18 tonnes was shipped from Amarante, Portugal, via Barcelona to Dar es Salaam Tanzania. Mercator also arranged onward road transportation to the landlocked state, Burundi. The project was executed in cooperation with fellow WWPC Portugal member, Alship Navegaçao.
Mercator, in collaboration with Ocean Knight Shipping (WWPC partner in China), shipped crystallizing machinery and components weighing 137 tonnes from France, via Antwerp to Shanghai. The equipment was barged to the final jobsite in Taizhou.
Mercator also organised the shipment of 90 tonnes of helicopter tents between Riga, Latvia and Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan (pictured). Due to strict time constraints, the heavy cargoes were delivered on two charter flights using AN-12 and IL-76 freighters.
Mercator also recently finished a charter project between Aktau, Kazakhstan and Afghanistan. Four air charters were scheduled using two AN-12s and one IL76 freighter.
