January 12 - Abu Dhabi-based Maximus Air has donated one of its Ilyushin 76 freighter aircraft to provide relief to refugees in the Levant region following the arrival of snowstorm Huda.
Maximus Air ceo Mohammed Al Qasimi explained that the airline was responding to the humanitarian campaign by donating an IL-76 flight that will deliver 45 tonnes of winter clothing and heaters from Sharjah International Airport to Marka Airport in Amman, Jordan. The aircraft departed the UAE on January 11, 2015.
Once in Jordan, supplies delivered by Maximus will be forwarded for distribution to families living in Jordan and Lebanon, in addition to those affected in Gaza and other Palestinian regions.
The campaign, which has been dubbed Tarahuma, was launched by President of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, earlier this month. The region is expected to experience heavy rain, snowfall and sub-zero temperatures as a result of the storm.
