July 30 - Port Manatee has been awarded a USD1.8 million security grant that will allow the port to proceed with three significant projects.
"This grant will help us promote the safe and efficient movement of cargo, as well as pave the way for new projects," said David St. Pierre, director of seaport security at Port Manatee.
The projects include the South Gate modernisation, which aims to enable safe and efficient handling of project cargo and processing of all cargo and vehicle data at the gate; upgrades and new equipment for the port security emergency communication centre; as well as the purchase of new geographic information software to manage traffic patterns and identify and plan critical infrastructure.
Port Manatee is located at the entrance to Tampa Bay and serves bulk, breakbulk, container, heavy lift, project and general cargo customers.
