October 31 - Mammoet has installed the main cryogenic heat exchanger (MCHE) at a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project on the US Gulf Coast, which currently comprises three LNG trains.

The MCHE, which weighed 295 tonnes, was lifted into place using a Terex CC-2800 crawler crane and Liebherr LR-1300 crawler crane.

Mammoet explained that the inclement weather created a number of challenges during the installation, and required the transport route to be widened and levelled, as well as the crane pads restored, after the storm had moved on.

The project is expected to be one of the largest LNG export terminals in the USA when completed, with an anticipated export capacity of 1.7 billion cu ft per day.

HLPFI reported in September 2016 that Mammoet had been awarded the transportation contract for an LNG project in Freeport, Texas.
