June 9 - Lufthansa Cargo Charter, together with customer Agility, has arranged the shipment of two gas-driven generators on an Antonov 124 freighter from Frankfurt Hahn Airport to Tokyo Narita Airport.
The generators, which were destined for one of Japan's biggest beverage producers, were packed in special containers measuring 9.08 x 3.07 x 3.11 m, and weighing 13 tonnes each.
In addition, two 40 ft containers with parts, each weighing 11 tonnes, were loaded on the Antonov freighter to protect production as the plant's power supply was severely disrupted by the recent earthquake and tsunami. The two gas generators will help the plant become more independent from the national grid and help guarantee cooling processes during the hot summer weather.
'Lufthansa Cargo Charter and Agility have been working together on special projects many times, just recently we organised a project from Germany to China and now the transport to Japan', says Reto R.Hunziker, managing director of Lufthansa Cargo Charter. 'With projects like this it is extremely important to work closely together and to have a reliable partnership' adds Thomas Peikert, chief executive officer area central Europe at Agility.
