June 20 - Liebherr has transported components weighing up to 420 tonnes for its new heavy lift offshore crane, the CAL 45000-1200 Litronic.
The components were loaded at the Liebherr MCCtec Rostock GmbH plant onto two ships at the port of Rostock, which then journeyed to the Crist shipyard, Gdynia, Poland.
There, the CAL 45000-1200 Litronic crane is being assembled onboard the vessel Vidar - an installation ship belonging to Hochtief Solutions. The vessel will be commissioned by the close of 2013 and will be used for the installation of offshore wind power stations.
The CAL 45000-1200 Litronic crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 1,200 tonnes at a maximum working radius of 27.5 m. The boom length measures 108 m and the crane's deadweight is 1,500 tonnes. The crane has a lifting height of over 120 m above deck. The slewing ring has an outer diameter of 13 m.
A specification of the CAL 45000-1200 is its 'crane around the leg' (CAL) functionality, making it able to rotate 360 degrees around one of the four jack-up legs of Vidar. It is only the second crane of its kind built by Liebherr to this specification.
