May 13 - A Liebherr LR 1600/2 lattice boom crane operated by Breuer&Wasel GmbH achieved a major success at an industrial gas installation in Duisburg.
As part of an expansion project at the plant, gas producers Linde Gas Deutschland, owner of the installation and hence the main client, is installing two columns. These two columns will be used in future to separate substance mixtures by thermal processes.
With a column weighing 125 tonnes and 58 m in length on the hook, the LR 1600/2 had to carry out a sideways slewing movement and then travel some distance in the direction of the column's installation location. The column was let down from above into a building 30 m high, and to do this the LR 1600/2 had to raise the massive load to a hook height of 96 m at an outreach of 48 m.
The Liebherr crawler crane was equipped with a main boom 60 m in length, a luffing jib 48 m long, and a derrick boom 36 m long. An LTM 1150-6.1 operated by Breuer&Wasel, was responsible for the ballasting of the LR 1600/2, with a central ballast of 65 tonnes, a slew superstructure ballast of 150 tonnes, and 300 tonnes of derrick ballast, while another Liebherr crane, an LTM 1350-6.1 with a load capacity of 350 tonnes, provided support for the LR 1600/2 during the lift, helping to raise the load from the horizontal and guide the column into position.
Breuer&Wasel have been working in the sector of crane hire and heavy load logistics for more than 30 years, and the company is already in the second generation of family ownership. The firm operates throughout Europe, and at present employs some 330 people. 80 percent of the 115 mobile cranes and all five of the crawler cranes in the fleet are from Liebherr, and the company also operates 340 Liebherr tower cranes.
