October 24 - Gummersbach, Germany-based crane contractor Ley-Krane has taken delivery of the first 450-tonne capacity LTM 1450-8.1 mobile crane from Liebherr.
According to Liebherr, Ley-Krane will use the LTM 1450-8.1 for repairing and erecting wind turbines, among other things.
Ley-Krane's Markus Ley explained: "We are also expecting a great deal of work for the LTM 1450-8.1 from bridge replacements on autobahns. 38 new bridges are planned on the A45 autobahn alone. The old ones must be removed and the new bridges then installed."
The eight axle mobile crane is able to travel with its complete 85 m telescopic boom and supports on public roads with a 12-tonne axle load limit, says Liebherr.
"We bought the removable telescopic boom option," explains Ley. "That means that in addition to the 96-tonne licence we also have one for a gross weight of less than 60 tonnes. That makes things much easier for us for travelling on public roads."
The LTM 1450-8.1 also features the VarioBallast, which enables the ballast radius to be reduced from 7 m in 5 m using a hydraulic system.
Ley-Krane operates a fleet of over 200 platforms and 15 mobile cranes with lifting capacities between 50 and 450 tonnes.
