March 20 - Konecranes has received an order for the design and components of a Goliath gantry crane from Korean Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co Ltd (HSHI).
Konecranes is a subcontractor to HSHI, which will construct the crane in South Korea and ship it to the final destination in Brazil for final assembly. Cooperation between HSHI and Konecranes goes back several years and this is the twelfth order that HSHI has placed with Konecranes.
The Goliath gantry crane will be used to construct hulls and to move loads in a new shipyard, OSX Construcão Naval S.A. situated in São João da Barra, Brazil. With a span of 186 m and a lifting capacity of 1,600 tonnes, the crane will be one of the biggest in the Americas and will enable the assembly of large blocks or modules of offshore vessels.
"We are very happy that HSHI wanted to continue the long relationship with us. As a result of our cooperation, OSX will get a Goliath crane of the very latest technology," says Jussi Rautiainen, general manager, Shipyard Cranes.
He added, "Brazil will be our most important market for shipyard cranes. Each new and happy customer in this region is a great support for us acting on the new crane markets and further developing our regional service network."
