Bulgaria’s BMF Port Burgas (BMF) has ordered two Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald ESP.9 mobile harbour cranes (MHCs), which will enhance the port’s project cargo handling capabilities. Meanwhile, Konecranes has acquired PIMEG, a crane sales and services company in Spain.

BMF has placed orders for two of the ESP.9 MHCs that each have a lifting capacity of 150 tonnes. The cranes will come equipped with an external power supply for all-electric operations. BMF and Konecranes have been working together for 12 years, when the port operator bought four pre-owned MHCs.

“Our existing Konecranes equipment has proven its reliability and efficiency for more than a decade – meeting our expectations every step of the way,” said Nikola Kosev, project manager at BMF. “We’re excited to now reach the milestone of investing in two brand new cranes, significantly boosting our performance in handling both project cargo and containers.”

The order, which was booked in Q1 2025 and is expected for delivery in Q4 2025, comes after a growth in freight volumes at the Bulgarian port. BMF has developed a new deepwater berth at its Burgas West Terminal, facilitating increased capacity for larger vessels and heavier cargo.

Furthermore, Konecranes has acquired Polipastos y Instalaciones MEG (PIMEG), a crane sales and services company based in Sabadell, Spain. The value of the deal has not been disclosed.

PIMEG specialises in the sales, service, inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, modernisations and spare parts procurement of crane systems in Sabadell, Catalonia. The company was founded in 2008 and employs 23 people.

“The acquisition strengthens Konecranes’ presence in Catalonia and Spain and ensures that the in-depth knowledge and expertise of PIMEG’s team remain accessible to customers,” said Roger Faja, director industrial service and equipment South-West EMEA at Konecranes.

Last week, HLPFI reported that Canada’s Saguenay Port Authority had ordered an ESP.6B MHC from Konecranes.
