January 22 - Kita Logistics, a member of The Heavy Lift Group (THLG), has transported over 3,000 trailer loads of cargo from Turkey to Iraq for two cement plant developments.
The consignment comprised of approximately 100,000 cu m of breakbulk cargo and around 1,000 teu, all of which was received at south Turkish ports and delivered into northern Iraq by road.
Kita deployed staff to the ports, as well as the Iraq-Turkey border crossing in Zakho, and the cement plant sites to assist with the delivery.
The most challenging part of the project involved moving eight oversize mills, each with a diameter of 6 m, in convoy to one of the sites, said Kita.
After several weeks of route surveys, obstacle removal and road improvements, Kita managed to transport the over-dimensional and overweight units to the site despite civil unrest and severe weather conditions.
