August 30 - Abu Dhabi Ports has revealed a major expansion plan for Khalifa Port, which will see an extra 1,000 m of quay wall added at the UAE gateway.
The new quay wall will create an additional 600,000 sq m for cargo handling. The expansion plan also includes increasing the depth of the port's main channel from 16 to 18 m.
Abu Dhabi Ports says that these measures will ensure the port can accommodate anticipated growth in the short to medium term and handle the world's largest ships, increasing the competitiveness of Abu Dhabi as a logistics and maritime hub.
As well as containerised cargoes, Khalifa Port also handles large amounts of general cargo, including bulk, breakbulk and ro-ro consignments.
