The transformer, which had the dimensions 12 m x 3 m x 3.8 m, was hydraulically jacked onto a 12-axle trailer for the short journey from the substation to the rail track, where it was loaded onto the Schnabel car.

From here Kübler organised the transportation of the transformer, over about 300 km, via a special train service to the Rhine-Ruhr area of Germany.

Kübler purchased the Schnabel rail car from an energy provider at the beginning of this year, and this was the first time it has been utilised. Rail transport was chosen since delivering a cargo of this nature along such a distance was near on impossible on Germany's roads, explained the company.

The project began last week and was completed this morning.
