October 30 - Jumbo Maritime has ended its exclusive agency agreement with Project Transport & Trading (PTT) in Canada.
According to Jumbo, the decision to discontinue the agreement follows increasing requests from clients in Canada to have direct contact with the shipping company.
All enquires for the Canadian and USA Great Lakes areas should now be directed via Rene Nijhuis at Jumbo's head office in the Netherlands.
Nijhuis has been working with Jumbo for more than 13 years and already manages and oversees the markets of North and South America.
Meanwhile, Jumbo has transported a 1,800-tonne thyssenkrupp ship unloader from the Port of Szczecin, Poland to the Aughinish Alumina facility in Limerick, Ireland.
The unit, which Jumbo says is the heaviest and largest thyssenkrupp ship unloader it has ever transported, was loaded onboard the heavy lift vessel Fairmaster.
Working together with thyssenkrupp, a system was designed to weld the ship unloader to the deck. Using this method instead of using sea fastening wires meant that several days in port were saved, says Jumbo.
A video of the project can be viewed here.
To facilitate the transport of larger ship loaders/unloaders, Jumbo has also refitted the fly jib onboard the Jumbo Javelin, giving the vessel's crane an additional lifting height. According to Jumbo this also means the vessel can transport multiple ship loaders/unloaders at a time.
