April 19 - Stevedoring company Portus has handled the discharge of 42 oversize steel pieces that will form a northeast Florida manufacturing facility at Jaxport's Blount Island Marine Terminal's heavy lift berth.
The steel units were lifted from Thorco Shipping's general cargo vessel Genius Star XI before being placed on individual trailers and trucked to Starke, Florida, where they will be assembled to create a freestanding manufacturing facility.
The pieces, which arrived at Jaxport from Shanghai, China, each weigh up to 111,000 lb (50 tonnes) and measure up to 50 ft (15.2 m) in length. A second shipment comprising the remaining components will arrive at Jaxport in June.
The shipment was organised by global freight forwarder UTi Worldwide.
