May 24 - Sarens Group has been awarded a contract for the transport of equipment for the CNRL oil sands project in Alberta, Canada - one of the largest contracts in the company's history.
Sarens will transport a modular plant capable of processing oil sands into bitumen, which in turn can be processed into more value-added fuels.
The largest modules weigh approximately 600 tonnes and will be lifted using a Demag CC8800-1 crane. Sarens will transport the modules from a lay-down area to underneath the crane's hook using its SPMTs. Modular technology will reduce the construction time required to build the facility, which is important given the extreme cold weather conditions experienced in Alberta.
Sarens was awarded the contract by Spain headquartered Tecnicas Reunidas, and signifies an entrance into the oil sand market for both companies. The contract is expected to run for 22 months, with the first lift scheduled for February 2014.
