July 3 - South Korea's Ki-tack Lim has been elected secretary general of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for an initial term of four years, with effect from January 1, 2016.
The vote took place during the 114th session of the 40 member strong IMO Council. The decision of the Council will then be submitted to the IMO Assembly for approval.
Currently president of Busan Port Authority, Lim served as South Korea's deputy permanent representative to the IMO from 2006 to 2009.
