The International Crane Stakeholders Assembly (ICSA) has released guidance on ground preparation when using mobile cranes during the construction of wind farms.
The guidance, which is the fourth published by ICSA, focuses on two construction areas: access roads, which covers ground bearing pressure for cranes and route path; and crane working areas, which includes suggestions for ground level requirements for working areas.
“Since most of the vehicles used for wind farm applications are special-purpose vehicles or vehicles with heavy loads, the requirements and design standards of access roads and working areas should be specified by the controlling entity during the planning stage to ensure all construction activities can be conducted safely” the guide states.
The document was approved at ICSA’s most recent meeting on June 15 and can be downloaded free of charge from the ICSA website.
