October 23 - Höegh Autoliners has transported five train bodyshells from Hitachi Rail's plant in Japan to the UK Port of Tyne onboard the PCTC vessel Höegh Tokyo.
The 3.8 m high by 26 m long train bodyshells will undergo advanced manufacturing processes at Hitachi's new state-of-the-art Rail Vehicle Manufacturing Facility (RVMF) in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.
"Höegh has worked on this project for a long time and we are now very glad to see it materialise," said Höegh ceo Ingar Skiaker. "Being selected as a transport provider for this project recognises Höegh's capabilities in the breakbulk sector."
Höegh explained that as new vessels enter its fleet - which should be complete in 18 months - the train bodyshells for Hitachi will be shipped onboard the new-generation PCTCs.
