The ports of Helsinki and Tallinn have received EU funding worth more than EUR15 million (USD16.3 million) as part of the Twin-Port VI project.
As part of a four-year project between the two ports, Twin-Port VI aims to help reduce transport system emissions and improve conditions for passenger and freight transport operations. The project’s overall budget across the period is EUR30.8 million (USD33.5 million).
Pekka Meronen, director at the port of Helsinki, said: “It [the EU investment] also shows that the goals of our projects are in line with the development goals of European transport systems.”
The port of Helsinki is one of Europe’s busiest passenger harbours and Finland’s leading general port for international freight traffic.
