November 11 - Sohar Port and Freezone has celebrated the maiden call of "K" Line's ro-ro carrier Hawaiian Highway at its general cargo terminal, C. Steinweg Oman.

The 200 m long by 38 m wide vessel has a capacity of 7,500 vehicles, and can transport a wide variety of cargoes, including rolling stock for the rail industry.

HLPFI reported on November 9 that ro-ro cargo volumes at Sohar have seen an impressive growth of almost 200 percent year-on-year over the first three quarters of 2015.

"Our rapid growth has positioned Sohar as a significant regional hub. Every new direct liner connection we add in Sohar is not only good for our own business, but it's also great for all our customers as it helps to reduce costs - and these are savings that can be passed down right along the supply chain," said Sohar port ceo Andre Toet.
