October 11 - The Almajdouie Group LLC, a member of both the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) and the Cargo Equipment Experts (CEE) networks in Saudi Arabia, has become the first Saudi private company to appear in Guinness Book of World Records.
President of Almajdouie Group, Abdullah Almajdouie and vice president logistics, S. I. Mustafa received a Guinness World Record Holder certificate for the "Heaviest Item Moved by Road Freight" from the managing director of Guinness World Records, Alistair Richards in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, during a gala ceremony attended by more than 500 figureheads from the logistics industry.
The award is based on the transportation of eight (8) evaporator units each weighing around 5,000 tonnes from the manufacturer in South Korea to the project site in Saudi Arabia. The combined weight for all the units exceeds 41,000 tonnes.
The evaporator units are being installed at the Ras Al Khair desalination plant which will turn saltwater into 228 million gallons of drinking water a day, enough to meet the drinking water needs of 3.5 million people.
The Ras Al Khair desalination plant made headlines when the first of its eight condenser units became the biggest load ever transported by road.
When it becomes operational in early 2013, the plant will be biggest desalination plant in the world.
Since the beginning of 2012, Almajdouie has moved five of these units and are now in the process of moving the last three evaporators by the end of this year.
