May 6 - Grimaldi Group has joined forces with the port of Venice to launch a new ro-ro service from the Italian gateway to Patras, Greece.
Paolo Costa, president of Venice Port Authority, explained that the Italian gateway has invested heavily in a new ro-ro terminal with four dedicated wharfs for ro-ro vessels. "Grimaldi is the first real partner of this new terminal in Venice," said Costa.
"Why Venice?" asked Grimaldi Group director Guido Grimaldi. "We believe the northern ports of Italy are lacking stability and frequency for customers and we hope to address this."
The new service, which will deploy two new ro-ro vessels each with a capacity of 220-240 units, will begin on June 10, explained.
The service will operate three weekly departures from each port, with vessels leaving Venice on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday; and departing Patras on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. The transit time from Italy to Greece is 26 hours.
