Grimaldi Group has taken delivery of Great Abidjan, the fourth G5-class multipurpose ro-ro vessel in a six-vessel order from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan, South Korea.
With the naming and delivery ceremony taking place on April 23, the vessel will soon be deployed between Northern Europe and West Africa, transporting rolling freight and containers.
With a length of 250 m, beam of 38 m and deadweight of 45,684 tonnes, the vessel is able to transport 4,700 linear metres of rolling freight, 2,500 ceu and 2,000 teu. Compared to the previous G4-class, the new vessels have the same capacity for rolling freight while their container capacity is doubled.
They are equipped with technological solutions aimed at increasing energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact. As a result, the vessels enable a reduction of CO2 emissions per tonne transported up to 43 percent, compared to other Grimaldi con-ro multipurpose ships.
