April 18 - Granite Construction has started work on a 3,300 ft (1,005.8 m) double rail siding near the south terminal of the Port of Everett, USA.
The port awarded the USD3.4 million contract to the Everett-based contractor to complete the second phase of the port's terminal rail enhancements, which will increase rail freight capacity at the Port of Everett Seaport.
According to the port, the project will increase its current rail footprint from 9,200 ft (2,804.2 m) to 12,500 ft (3,810m), and completion is expected in November 2017. The project also provides a connection that allows BNSF Railway easier access to the port's shipping facilities.
The port utilises rail to support US exports and imports, including cargoes for the aerospace, construction, manufacturing, energy, agricultural and forest products industries.
