Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) has acquired two Konecranes Gottwald Model 6 mobile harbour cranes for its Ocean Terminal in the port of Savannah.
The G HMK 6507 variants, which have a lifting capacity of 125 tons (113.4 tonnes) each, will be delivered to the port in July and will be equipped with Konecranes’ hybrid drive system, consisting of a diesel engine paired with ultracapacitors to comply with EPA Tier 4 regulations.
The units also have built-in readiness for an external power supply to help lower operating costs while reducing noise and exhaust emissions.
GPA’s Ocean Terminal handles breakbulk, heavy lift, ro-ro and containerised cargo. Currently, only one ship-to-shore (STS) is available in this area of the port. The new units will be used to handle containers and general cargo.
