November 15 - Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority has selected Jade Software's port management software, Master Terminal, to operate the Tema and Takoradi ports, two of Africa's busiest terminals.
In a typical year, the port of Tema will receive on average over 1,650 ships, including container, general cargo, tankers, ro-ro and cruise vessels. Takoradi is also serviced by leading international shipping lines and because of its proximity to rich oil and gas fields, is able to support specialist supply vessels involved in exploration and production activities.
Master Terminal, with its specialist ability to manage mixed cargo and multi-terminal customer needs, is ideal for growing ports such as Tema and Takoradi, said David Lindsay, Jade's managing director.
This deal represents the first penetration into the burgeoning African continent for Jade and Master Terminal, and Jade is now looking to expand into the wider African region, Lindsay added.
Alice Torkornoo, general manager of business development for Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, commented: "The multi-cargo aspect perfectly suits our ports, and the proven technology and strong support network gave us confidence that Master Terminal would enable us to compete for new business, increase efficiency, security and consumer confidence, while reducing our costs."
Implementation of Master Terminal in the Ghanaian ports will commence this year, and become live in 2014.
