August 17 - At 70.8 million tonnes, the port of Hamburg's first half seaborne cargo throughput was just below the previous year's.
Whilst for the first six months of the year bulk cargo handling at 23.6 million tonnes was 12.3 percent up on the previous year, container throughput reached 4.5 million teu, 6.8 percent below the previous year's total for the same period.
At 876,000 tonnes, handling of non-containerised general cargo, such as large plant elements and wheeled cargoes, remained 5.8 percent below the previous year's total.
