June 3 - GAC Sri Lanka is supporting a year-long refurbishment of a 45 km stretch of rail line between Galle and Matara in Sri Lanka.
Managed by IRCON International, the project is the first phase of the government's plan to upgrade approximately 120 km of track between Kalutara and Matara and is expected to be completed by March 2011.
GAC is undertaking the transportation of 15,000 tonnes of concrete sleepers, intersection, steel girders and other essential parts and equipment to a variety of sites along the track between Galle and Matara.
A dedicated team of GAC staff is co-ordinating the delivery of the heavy parts in more than 500 containers shipped over India, arranging their transportation, de-stuffing and stacking. The import of material for the project is expected to be completed by the end of October 2010.
